Meticulously restored by marque experts, Coachwerks Restoration, after having spent 54 years with the last owner.

The vehicle arrived at Coachwerks as a complete, extremely well-documented 300SL Roadster, cared for since 1967 by the same owner. The Roadster came with numerous records, including handwritten notes and invoices dating back to his purchase. Copies of these records remain with the car as well as photographs of this Roadster prior to restoration. The vehicle is complete with a copy of its Mercedes-Benz factory data card. The team at Coachwerks verified all of the components listed on the data card match what is actually stamped on each component. These include the chassis, body, engine, transmission, rear differential, front spindles, and steering box.

The 4,000 hour restoration, spanning two years, is documented by over 1,300 photographs. Between 2022 and 2024, the entire car was disassembled, stripped to bare metal, and rebuilt to exacting factory specifications. This 300SL left the Mercedes-Benz factory in November of 1958, destined for the US market and was lightly optioned and presented in DB534 “Fire Engine Red” over 1060 Cream leather. During the course of the restoration, a decision was made to change the color of the exterior and interior, strictly adhering to available colors offered by Mercedes-Benz for the 300SL Roadster in period. The exterior now presents in DB 040 “Black” and the interior is trimmed in 244 Green leather. It was also decided to add a matching two-piece set of fitted luggage, Rudge knock-off wheels, bumperette delete, and a Becker-Mexico radio with a Hirschmann antenna.
